Rena Basch

Clerk

Rena Basch was first involved in Ann Arbor Township governance in 1999 as a volunteer on the Public Safety Committee, and then served on the Planning Commission from 2000-2004. She was subsequently elected as Clerk in 2004, running as part of a bi-partisan coalition committed to balanced land-use planning, protection of natural resources, governmental transparency and citizen engagement.

Prior to serving as Clerk, Basch was a Technical Leader at the Ford Motor Company Research Laboratory for 15 years. She holds a Bachelor’s degree and a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering. Basch also founded and ran a local food company for 10 years, as well as participating in Michigan redistricting reform, and serving on nonprofit boards.  She and husband Jeffrey Basch have two young adult children, and as a family they enjoy skiing, travel and cooking big messy meals at home.
