Trustee
Rodney Smith was appointed to the Board of Trustees in April 2020. He came to Ann Arbor to work as an emergency physician with Emergency Physicians Medical Group (EPMG) at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in 1994 and moved to the township in 2008 when he married his wife, Janet Kemink, a longtime township resident. Together they have 4 children and 5 grandchildren, with a 6th on the way.
At EPMG, he had a variety of leadership roles, including Treasurer, Chief Medical Officer, and Managing Partner, and served on the Board of Directors for the St. Joseph Mercy Health System and Huron Valley Physicians Association. As a physician executive, his guiding principles included an orientation toward service, a belief that a strong sense of stewardship is important for success, an understanding that the people in an organization and a community are their greatest assets, and that the key to service is to listen to understand the needs and aspirations of those he served.
